The Work of a Melbourne Illustrator

Elvedee Design is a creative label offering handmade, cheerful & cheeky, whimsical & wondrous art and art wares by Melbourne illustrator and maker Veronica.

Veronica started Elvedee Design to bring more joy into both her art and everyday life. After years of creating dark, melancholic pieces, an unexpected moment of inspiration changed everything – thanks to a bunch of flowers and a mischievous cat.

During a tough time in 2006, Veronica turned around to find her cat, Teacup, happily munching on a bouquet her partner had brought home to cheer her up. Annoyance turned to amusement, and she quickly sketched the scene. That simple, lighthearted drawing became a turning point, sparking a shift toward the cheerful, whimsical illustrations she creates today.

Every piece is illustrated, designed, and crafted in her Brunswick studio, using materials sourced within Australia to support local businesses. From sketching playful designs to printing and sewing tea towels on her industrial Singer machine, every step is done with care.

A lifelong love of animals is woven through her designs, with cheeky cats, cute Australian animals, and other expressive creatures popping up everywhere. Her studio assistant and muse, Pinafore, often inspires new illustrations.

Elvedee Design’s collection includes quirky punny cards, A5 notebooks, high-quality archival prints, and tea towels. As a Melbourne illustrator, Veronica draws inspiration from her surroundings, with themes covering Australiana, Melbourne, and local suburbs. Her love of animals shines through in playful depictions of furry friends, especially cats, alongside pop culture references and whimsical scenes.

Veronica also offers custom pet portraits and personalised illustrations, creating one-of-a-kind keepsakes. A hand-painted pet or personal portrait can brighten your home and be the most unique and personalised gift you can give.

I commissioned 6 pet portraits from Elvedee design so far. Every time the result was exceptional. We have a few hanging in the house and others were gifts. It was a pleasure to work through the process with Veronica. Very talented artist and beautiful individual!

I commissioned a drawing of my brothers cat. I love that cat, she's very cute. The drawing made me love the cat even more, and I'm jealous I have to give the final product to my brother. The artist, Veronica, was at all times very communicative, friendly and fast but skilled in making the piece.

I would recommend to anyone who wants a cute drawing of their pet.

Elvedee Design did a great custom piece for me. I had something very specific and unusual in mind and the final product not only met me expectations, it exceeded them. Highly recommended.

I ordered two personal pet portraits from Elvedee Design and I absolutely love them. Veronica captured my furbabies' personalities perfectly! They now hang proudly on my wall and I recommend her to everyone! I've also purchased a pair of her earrings as well and always get compliments.

Veronica was a dream to work with -- so lovely and talented! I commissioned a couple of kitty portraits for a friend and they turned out so beautifully! She has amazing attention to detail and my friend absolutely loves them! I can't wait to get a custom piece for myself. Thank-you Veronica :)
